Description
The PM5 Auto Lap Precision Lapping Machine allows materials processing laboratories to take full advantage of the most important recent development in lapping technology - automatic lapping plate flatness control. This greatly enhances machine performance, providing improved sample quality, increased production and reduced processing times.
The automatic plate flatness control system continually monitors the plate shape and automatically corrects any deviations from the required shape set by the operator. This removes the need to recondition the plate before processing, maintaining the shape indefinitely to within 1 micron of the operator's target. This can either be flat, or concave or convex to a precise degree. The ease with which the value can be set provides savings in operator time, enabling a greater sample output.
Using the PM5 auto lap, preparing standard samples to precise thicknesses with excellent thickness uniformity is an extremely simple matter. The process of conditioning a plate using operator skill, careful measurement and trial and error is completely eliminated, making it far easier to produce samples of the very highest quality.
In order to produce high quality polished or chemically polished samples with minimal edge rounding, it is often desirable to lap the samples slightly concave. The skilful process of producing an accurately concave sample is reduced to a few simple keystrokes using the PM5 auto lap. This cna be of particular use, for example, in the production of semiconductor wafers.
